Is Traditional Burial Better than Cremation?

mkj • March 13, 2023

Families have to make many  important and deeply personal decisions  after a loved one dies, including whether to choose traditional burial or cremation. Often, this decision is a complicated one due to conflicting opinions, religious convictions, and financial considerations. That’s where the  professional staff  at Moloney Family Funeral Home comes in. We know a  meaningful tribute  brings a great deal of healing, and we’re here to explain the options so you can make a selection that will put you at ease.

We’ve been serving those in  Center MorichesHauppauge , and  Central Islip for  more than 75 years , and our expertise comes in handy when outlining the reasons people select burial or cremation. After all, there is no “right” way to  memorialize a loved one. As you consider  preplanning your funeral  or are involved with  planning a personal tribute  for a friend or family member, keep the following factors in mind.

Why some families choose  traditional burial :

Tradition . It’s not uncommon for families to plan and purchase burial plots decades in advance to ensure all family members are buried near each other. For many, this is the way it’s always been done in their family, and they want to carry on that tradition.

Religious convictions.  A traditional burial may align with the beliefs, or even be required, of the person who died and/or the family and can bring a religious community together to grieve the loss.

Personal preference.  While cremation has certainly increased in popularity, there are some people who simply don’t like the idea of it. For them, traditional burial is the only option to consider.

Why some families choose  cremation :

Removes time constraints.   If desired, loved ones can take their time planning a meaningful memorial and  reception  to honor the person who has died without feeling rushed. This also allows out-of-town guests more time for travel.

May be more economical.  With fewer associated costs, a cremation can be a less expensive option than a traditional burial.

Environmental Concerns.  Those who want to preserve land or limit their carbon footprint after death view cremation as an eco-friendlier option than burial.

Whether you choose  traditional burial  or cremation, remember that our caring staff at Moloney is ready to sit down with you anytime to walk through these decisions, along with providing  emotional support  as you go through a difficult time in life. We don’t consider helping families to be a job – it is our calling, and we are here for you every step of the way. Contact us anytime.
