William F. Dorst

William Francis Dorst, age 84, died peacefully on May 13, 2023. Born and raised in Richmond Hill, New York, William joined the US NAVY at age 17, where he proudly served his country as Machinist Mate 3rd Class on the U.S.S. Gatling DD671. He fondly recalled his tour throughout the Mediterranean and North Africa. During his service, he met and married Carol (nee Fialkowski) and the couple eventually settled in Holbrook, where they raised two children. After his military service, William served as a police officer for the New York City Transit Authority.
An avid outdoorsman and firearms enthusiast, William enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping with family and friends, and later in life, long scenic drives along the winding roads of upstate New York and the beaches of eastern Long Island. William both lived his life and left this world with remarkable strength, courage, and the conviction of his beliefs. He will be deeply missed.
William is survived by his daughter Kimberly and husband Abdelkader, his son Thomas and wife Christine, and his granddaughters, Amanda and Alexa. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Carol, and his brother James.
