Terrance John Alexander Johnson

d. February 3, 2023

OBITUARY:
Terrance J. A. Johnson
6/22/64 – 2/03/23
Johnson, Terrance John Alexander, beloved father,
son, and brother, passed away on the morning of
February 3, 2023, at New York Columbia Presbyterian
Hospital in Fort Washington section of Manhattan, NY
while under the hospice care of Calvary Hospital. He
had been hospitalized and battling lymphoma for over
year prior to his passing.
Terrance, known as “T.J.” to his close friends and family, was born on
June 22, 1964, to Francis R. Johnson, Sr and Helene Johnson at Terrace
Heights Hospital in Hollis Queens, N.Y. and grew up in North Babylon,
N.Y. He graduated from North Babylon High School before studying
diesel mechanics at Ohio Diesel Technical Institute (now known as Ohio
Technical College) in Cleveland, OH.
TJ worked for many years as a diesel mechanic both in New York and in
Florida but a series of back and wrist injuries eventually led him to seek
other work.
Later in life he decided to pursue a long-held dream to be a long-haul
trucker. He went through the training and received his license and took
to the road. In some ways his personality and disposition were custom
made for this kind of life and in many ways it was one of the best
decisions of his life.
As a Long-Haul Trucker he worked for US Xpress Trucking, CFI
Trucking and Western Express. He never ceased to be amazed at what
he saw out of his “office” window, whether it be the Rocky Mountains,
the Smoky Mountains, the plains of the Midwest, or the Black Hills and
Badlands of the Dakotas, he was always amazed at this country’s variety
and beauty.
TJ was an avid sports fan supporting the NY Giants and NY Yankees as
well as all forms for auto racing. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and
studied Taekwondo martial arts for several years.
TJ has lived in Middle Island, NY, New Port Richey, FL, Daytona, FL,
Spring Hill, FL and most recently in Watkins Glen, NY.
He is survived by his two grown children Justine Marie Johnson and
Matthew Terrance Johnson who both reside in Florida: his brothers,
Francis Ronald Johnson Jr., (Maureen) of Hudson FL, Todd Johnson,
(Nancy) of Central Islip NY, his sister Tonimarie Johnson of Watkins
Glen, NY; uncle Robert Johnson, (Cecile) of Los Altos CA, and Aunt
Lenora Johnson of Watsonville CA; several nieces and nephews, a host
of cousins and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents and
his younger brother Trevor Johnson.
