Sylvia M. Stano

d. November 24, 2022

On November 24th Heaven welcomed a most deserving angel, Sylvia Stano. Her passing was peaceful after a courageous year. Her 89 years on this earth were full of wonder.

Sylvia always lived her life with “the is glass half-full” philosophy . She only looked for the good in people. Sylvia was the proud mother of 3 biological children, but many people considered her their “surrogate Mom!”

She was most proud of her children and adored her 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Sylvia’s home ALWAYS had an open door policy. People were welcomed with a smile, good food, shelter, comfort, words of advice and a “nice cup of tea.” She was the caretaker to many family members and friends to the end of their lives. She did this, not due to obligation, but with LOVE and compassion. She lived her entire life wanting to help people in need.

Sylvia was born in NYC, attended Jules Richmond High School, married Vinnie and moved to “the woods” in Deer Park (back in the 50’s). She loved Long Island where she raised her family.

Fast forward 50 years when she and her husband Vinnie began a new adventure after retirement. They moved south for warmer weather in Hilton Head,SC. She found her Shangri-la. Sylvia became actively involved in her Retirement Community joining multiple clubs, house decorating, crafting, traveling the globe and making new friendships. She was an avid puzzle builder, gardener, bird watcher and political advocate.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Vincent of 72 years, son Vincent Stano Jr and wife Donna, daughter Victoria and husband David Gartland, daughter Cynthia and husband Scott Keith, 6 grandchildren Bryan(m. Lynn Keith), Cassandra(m. Jonathan Slavik), Kimberly(m. Jeffrey Crispin), Wesley Stano ,Kyler Stano and Michael Gartland, 8 great grandchildren Finn, Kennedy , Aurora, Wallace Slavik, Emerson & Crosby Keith, Hannah and June Crispin, and her sisters Mary Savarese and Helen Gauci.
