Loving son to Samuel Klee and Sophia (Spooner) Klee. Loving older brother to The Late Rita Graffi , The Late Betty Edus and Mary Alice Barkley . Samuel grew up in the Watertown, NY area where he lived and worked on various dairy farms in his youth.
Proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy with an honorable discharged as Engineman First Class.
He married Anna Elizabeth Roth in 1953 at the Old St. Anne’s Church in Brentwood, NY. Devoted father to Barbara Appleby, Karen Neel (Tim) and Steven Klee.Cherished Grandfather to Eric Appleby, Jason Appleby, Tyler Klee, Shaun Sweeney and Cody Bertovich .
His extended family included Danny and Roseann Ercole, Diane Hopke and her daughters Brianna and Alexa.
He worked for Grumman, Brentwood School District and purchased the Molin’s Lawn Mower Shop in St. James New York. He sold the business in 1984. He was a jack of all trades Mechanic, builder, and fixer- upper man.
Sam and Anne made numerous road trips around the country. The first trip was in a White GMC van along with Cal and Margie Rebollol. They then purchased a Honey Motorhome. His sisters Betty Edus and Rita Graffi accompanied them on one of their trips. They upgraded to a Pace Arrow Motorhome and continued their travels around the country.
Sam joined the East Brentwood fire department on April 7th 1958 and spent the next 60 years in service to his community. He held many ranks and positions and was a well-loved cook for department functions. He was a commissioner and Treasurer in the fire department at the time of his passing. Sam was a lifelong Mason and member of the Lodge of Antiquity in Brentwood, New York.
A joy of his life was the family camp on Upper Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks where he enjoyed nature, as well as the company of family and friends for over 50 years.
Sam was well known for his Christmas cookies, jelly making, and for his baking of the “birthday” cake.
Slash the cat will miss his bowls of treats and Sam’s warm belly.
He was known for his storytelling, his generosity, and he would give you the shirt off his back. His door was always open to family and friends.
He will be missed.
