Robert John Kirwan (“Bob”), 79, of Sayville, NY, passed away on September 9, 2023.
Early in life Bob obtained a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering before serving in the United States Army specializing in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (1967-1973).
Following his military tenure, Bob’s path led him to the realms of industry and public service. He worked for Grumman Aircraft (1969-1975) before destiny guided him to the Suffolk County Police Department in 1975. In 1979 Bob joined the Department’s Emergency Services Unit where he tirelessly served an unprecedented 33 years before his well-deserved retirement in 2012.
Bob is survived by his loving sons, Robert and Christopher Kirwan (Rachael). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Jack, Kyle, Madison, and Meghan. Barbara Curreri, his life companion, who provided him with unwavering love and support throughout his life. Additionally, Bob is survived by the mother of his children, Diane Goodman, and his niece, Angela Canaday.
He now reunites with his family preceding him in death, father, Robert Raymond Kirwan, mother, Rita and sister, Joan.
Bob Kirwan will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. His legacy of loyalty, trust and selflessness will forever be remembered.
