Michael Meyer

MEYER – Michael Joseph, 65 of Bohemia, NY passed away on July 14, 2018. Born in Manhattan he was the son of Frederick James and Eileen Theresa. His family moved to North Merrick when he was 4 years old. After high school he worked as a driver for Newsday for 36 years and was an avid reader, skier, golfer, boater, bicyclist and enjoyed games, such as poker, dice and backgammon. For many years in a row he joined a cycle club that would “Bicycle across Maryland”, camping in tents at each days stop. One of his greatest accomplishments was when he completed a 51 day cross country bicycle challenge from the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco to the Atlantic Ocean in Portsmouth NH. He enjoyed following almost all sports especially football and baseball. He mostly took great joy in spending time with his large extended family that includes 30 first cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his siblings Barbara (Billy) Dunlap of Gilbertsville, PA, Eileen Meyer Avitabile of Myrtle Beach, SC, Frederick J. Meyer Jr. and Sylvia Kaiser of Bohemia, NY, Kevin (Suzanne) Meyer of Rocky Point, NY; Nieces and nephews, Zachary Koenig (Jen) of Lansdale, PA, Keith (Jenny) Koenig of El Segundo, CA, Noah Dunlap of Amarillo, TX, Alex Gladding (Briana) of East Quogue, NY, Anthony Avitabile of Swanaonoa, NC, Sean Meyer of West Babylon, NY, Brianna Meyer of West Babylon, NY, Serena Dunlap of Denver, CO; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Mother Theresa Tribute Center located at Moloney’s Lake Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 132 Ronkonkoma Ave, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY. Interment at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, NY on Saturday.
