I love you Dad. Rest in eternal peace.
Hello. My name is Todd Lucas, married to Joe's 2nd youngest daughter Patricia Lutz, which would make me Joe and Joan's son-in-law.
My earliest memory of "Papa Lutz" (as I liked to call him) was when I met him in 1999 while relocating from Omaha, Nebraska to Selden, New York. As it turned out, Patricia and I had met on a Carnival Cruise a few months earlier, and I was smitten with her from the start! I decided to relocate to explore the relationship further. Patricia had invited me to stay at their house until the moving truck could arrive at my apartment. Joe and Joan, aka "Mother Lutz", welcomed me with open arms, and made me feel right at home.
I quickly learned that Joe was what we would call a "gentle giant" in Nebraska. He always had a quick smile, a gentle laugh, and a twinkle in his eyes. His devotion to his family and faith were ever-present, and he rarely raised his voice in anger. The only things that seemed to raise his blood pressure were when we talked of high tax rates in New York, or the amount of traffic; but that's true almost anywhere you live, right?!
He enjoyed trips to the beach, playing with the grand kids, and sitting on the pier to take in the fresh ocean air. He loved to stretch his legs with trips to the grocery stores, always finding the best prices and quality goods. He taught me that Eddy's ice cream was better than Blue Bunny; New York oven-fired pizza was better than Pizza Hut; and afternoon naps were a rite of passage after you retire. I quickly learned that his head would fall to his chest when he snoozed in the chair, as compared to Mother Lutz whose head would be turned up to the ceiling.
All kidding aside, he quietly and consistently lived the life of a devoted husband and father, as well as a friend to all he came in contact with; being a husband and father myself, it is my sincerest hope that I can do the same.
You will be missed on this Earth Papa Lutz, but as I always like to say about a fellow believer when they pass on, it's not "Good Bye" ... it's "Until We Meet Again (in Heaven)".
I would like to offer my sincere condolences to my mother-in-law Joan, and the rest of the Lutz family.
So many beautiful memories with you dad! You were a great dad and grandpa! I will cherish the memories we’ve made. Even when you were tired and didn’t get much sleep you would take us to the beach. I will continue to walk like you, love food shopping like you, and laugh like you. Loved how you laughed watching King Of Queens when I saw you last. Rest in eternal peace dad, until we meet again. Love you always!!
