John J. Best, resident of Copiague, NY and formerly of Brooklyn, NY, passed away on August 24, 2022, at the age of eighty-two from congestive heart failure.
John is survived by his four children: Joann Collins (Daniel), John Best (Jacquelyn), Karen Arnold (Paul), Linda Rogers (James) and his eight adoring grandchildren, Kerry and Casey Collins, John and Shannon Best, Regan and Mallory Arnold, and Bailey and Catherine Rogers . He is predeceased by his wife of 39 years and the love of his life, Catherine (née McKenney).
John was a devoted grandfather, and his grandchildren lovingly called him G-Pa. He had a great sense of humor which naturally made him the life of every party.
John retired from the New York City Police Department in July of 1995. He also worked in construction and was a member of the Pointers, Cleaners and Caulkers Union. In retirement, John discovered his love of boating and spent his summers cruising the Great South Bay on his beloved Regal christened “It’s About Time.”

John was my neighbor and very kind to my family when we moved here 4 years ago. I will miss our brief hellos while I would be planting my flowers and you would be running out for your newspaper. We had not been able to see you much this past year, but I am thankful I was able to catch you outside a couple of months ago and walk across the street while you were outside seating on a chair and chat for 10 minutes and talk about your beautiful family and you asked about mine and that is how my family will always remember you as such a kind wonderful man with a beautiful soul. My husband and will miss you and will never forget your kind smile and bright hellos.
