Daniel N Hoeffner left a message on February 14, 2024:
My sincere condolences to all of Mr. Cione’s friends and family. I fondly remember Mr. Cione as an extremely soft spoken, kind and generous man, and as a great father to my wonderful friend Angelo and his big brother Joseph. For many years, Mr. Cione routinely spent hours of his valuable weekends driving me and Angelo to and from the mall, our jobs as porters at Dunkin Donuts and all over Long Island to attend our Lake Grove Arrows soccer games. After those games Mr. Cione always insisted on taking us out to eat (we usually had pizza), or having his loving wife, and quintessential Italian mother, Mrs. Cione feed us all types of wonderful Italian food at their beautiful home. Mr. Cione’s kindness and generosity towards me was always second to none, and it continued unaltered even after I had the audacity to get into his car one day with a particular t-shirt on revealing that I was a supporter of Die Mannschaft, perhaps the greatest rival of his beloved Azzurri! I also recall that as a young teenage boy, I was always envious of how Mr. Cione would allow Angelo to control the car radio on our trips, which for soccer games, were often quite long. I distinctly recall one such trip shortly after me an Angelo had obtained our forever life changing NYS Learners Permits. Unwilling to put our lives in Angelo’s still unexperienced hands on the always treacherous LIE, Mr. Cione was driving while Angelo continued to DJ from the passenger seat. As we were making our way, the latest TKA song had come on HOT 97 and Angelo was insisting (perhaps because while he had been by permitted by NYS, he had not been permitted by his loving father to drive on this occasion) that we all listen to it as loudly as the speakers in Mr. Cione's car would allow. Finally, Mr. Cione appeared to have had enough as he repeatedly turned down the volume and moved Angelo's hand away from the radio dial. Apparently sensing that his resistance was futile, Mr. Cione gave up and let the remainder of the song play at full volume. That was the last trip I recall the three of us ever taking together because shortly thereafter Mr. Cione saw to it that Angelo obtained his actual NYS drivers licenses and had his own car! You were a role model for me that demonstrated kindness, generosity and what being a great father looks like. Grazie, Mr. C. Riposa in pace. - Dan Hoeffner
