Doreen & Joe Beninati left a message on August 3, 2022:
My condolences to Bill and all of Heathers family and friends. I met Heather through my sister-in-law Joanne. Joanne spoke so highly of heather and I was so happy I was able to finally meet her. She was a remarkable and giving person. Heather was so helpful to my sister-in-law over the years while she dealt with her illness. Heather never hesitated and always ran to help her whenever Joanne needed her. Even after Joanne's passing she helped my husband and I tremendously. We are forever grateful for her kindness and were truly blessed we had the opportunity to get to know her. Heaven certainly gained another angel. Rest in Peace dear Heather and thank you for being the light in so many peoples lives.
Karen Cerino left a message on August 1, 2022:
I worked with Heather for many years she was the sweetest, kindest person. A strong advocate for children and a loyal supporter for staff and parents. She will be terribly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and working with her. My deepest condolences to her family , friends and colleagues.

My deepest condolences to the Howell and Jablonsky families. Also to those who love and miss her. Heather was my mentor when I entered into RCSD and quickly realized that she was a wealth of knowledge and experience to learn from. Whenever unsure or stumped, my go to was to call Heather for advice. Heather’s big heart was seen through the endless care and love she gave others. However, her sense of humor and hysterical stories would cause a range of reactions from a smile to making you pee your pants. I loved our “mental health” meetings, where everything under the sun was discussed. She has left a Heather sized whole in the RCSD community and our hearts. There’s comfort in the knowledge that she has gone to a better place (Heaven, Over the Rainbow Bridge, whatever), is young/healthy no longer suffering and sharing her love with everyone (human and fur babies) that have gone before her. I hope that she’s able to send us some signs that she’s not completely gone from our lives. Love And Miss You.

Heather was my mentor in September of 2017. It was my first year in Riverhead schools and upon meeting her she immediately apologized for the the “F” bombs she would use in expressing herself. She was witty, sarcastic, and so knowledgeable of the school system. She had great clinical skills which made me be all the more fond of her. AfteR she mentored me, I knew our relationship would just get closer and it did indeed. We spoke almost daily despite not working in the same school. She was no longer my mentor but a dear friend. We vented about work stress and shared information about family life. She loved her family fiercely and was a caring, kind, loyal and devoted friend. I dont know what my day to day life at work will be like without her. I keep replaying my last conversation with her in my head and I wish I could have said more. I cant even begin to imagine what her family, husband, and other close friends are going through. She will be missed terribly. I am so sorry for the Howell and Jablonsky families loss. My heart and thoughts are with you and I will be sure to honor Heather, her work, and passions in my very own work on a daily basis..

I am so sorry to hear of Heather’s passing. I first met Heather at Riley Avenue Elementary School, where i worked in the main office, and Heather was the school social worker. I remember the fun get togethers in the summer, at her house. We also kept connected when she worked in Aquebogue School, and I was in the Special Education Office. Heather was always so sweet, and we had a lot of laughs. She is one of the reasons my daughter is a Social Worker today. My condolences go out to the entire family. Rest in Peace, Heather ❤️ ……Donna Alfano
