Harry E. Ward

Ward, Harry Edwin – A 53 year resident of Port Jefferson, NY passed away peacefully on May 20. Born in Rockville Centre, NY, on April 1st, 1928 to James and Edith (Lerch) Ward. Beloved husband of 65 years of the late Helen (nee Maxwell). Loving Father of Kathie Ward (Peter Field) the late Amy Ward Friend, Damian, Andrea Patton (Ronald), Laura Colucci (Michael) and Justin (Brandy). Proud Grandfather of Spencer, Victoria, Olivia and Erica Patton; Braden, Harrison, and Jillian Colucci; and John and Ryan Ward. Devoted Brother of Lincoln (Mary), the late Roy (Mable), and the late James (Joan). Also survived by many nephews and nieces, and a multitude of faithful friends.
Harry was a proud veteran of WWII and served as an Aviation Cadet. After graduating from Stevens College, he began his distinguished career in Advertising at Duane Jones & Company, where he met and married his wonderful wife, Helen. He moved on to Compton Advertising, Inc. – which became the 3rd largest advertising agency in the world. Harry worked as a combination Art Director and Copywriter – a role he created for himself – and rose to become a Senior Vice President, and a driving force in the success of the agency.
During his time at Compton, he also pursued his passion of fine arts, and became a respected Artist, and a much-admired painter of large, distinctive canvases, which were shown in several galleries.
But Harry’s major and most beloved accomplishment was his role as a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and loyal friend. “Tough Love” was part of his strategy, but True Love was the end result. Harry may be gone in body, but not in spirit. He will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hope House Ministries (www.hhm.org) in Harry’s name, would be greatly appreciated. The wake will be held on Friday, May 27th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Moloney’s Funeral Home in Port Jefferson Station. The funeral mass will be held at Infant Jesus Chapel at Saint Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 28th.
