We can only do our best and hope

that we do it well.

Our mother certainly got an A ++ in this

Mom was a selfless woman

Caring and unassuming

She gave of herself to her family

and her husband of 60 years

Mom’s parents were Julia and John Locascio affectionately named Nanny and Poppy

She was born and raised on Palmetto Street in Brooklyn, NY

When she graduated high school at the age of 18 they moved to Rosella Court in

West Babylon

Her first job was as a receptionist for ridge garage door company in West Babylon a few years later she took a position at Zahn’s Airport in Amityville as a secretary.

Mom and Dad met in West Babylon

The Rosella Court property was adjacent to a horse farm

Dad was visiting friends next door

And while everyone was looking at the horses my dad was eyeing up mom

They fell in love and were married in 1962

They have three children

Myself, Donna and Howie

Five Grandchildren

Alyssa

Samantha

Brielle

Matthew and Lea

And her eight Great Grandchildren

Our Mother made an incredible difference in our lives and how blessed are we that you were our wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother and great grandmother

Mom Loved

Quality time with Family

She Passed along the camping tradition and

love for Travel.

She taught us how to cook and bake our families traditional holiday cookies and pies

She loved the Spring, the Garden and

the Budding Flowers

In particular the Lilacs, Peonies, and Dahlias

She loved simple things, a stroll around the block, a glass of iced tea on the back porch and a piece of chocolate after dinner

Our childhood in the 60s, 70’s and the 80’s was a different time

Our meal times were full of family discussions There was little traffic in the street by our home so we played safely with lots of

children together

We roamed for miles with our bikes and roller-skates.

In 1976 we traveled across the United States in a Ford Econoline van with a 27ft Avenger trailer in tow

Heading to popular tourist spots with an eye on the final destination of the Scout Jamboree in Boise, Idaho

In the car every day we would play country music on the radio

We’d sing along to songs by John Denver, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette.

Nanny could whip you up a frittata, spaghetti and meatballs or rice pudding at the drop of a hat.

It was not a Holiday unless the green Tupperware of rice pudding made its appearance!

Thinking about it now we could all agree that it was not just the rice pudding that we all loved it was the love, the compassion, and the laughter in everything that she did.

For one I’ll be craving and missing our holiday pies and butter cookies

We’ll need to team up with dad to keep the tradition alive!

She was an arts and crafts wiz

Crochet work and needlepoint were

her specialty

Her Tuesday bitch and stitch club, self reportedly was more about chatting it up with the ladies vs true stitching time!!

For the past few years

Mom and Dad would show up at the door close to Christmas time

With their newest wooden carafes for

Christmas trees, mangers and church facades

Dad did the cutting and mom the painting.

More recently, she veered from her traditional Hats, scarfs and wraps to stuffed crochet animals, fruit and vegetables.

We couldn’t forget wooing Brantlee and Thomas down the aisle at Brielle and Vins wedding as flower girl and ring bearer with

Nanny’s hand-made crochet monkey and pony

Made just for the occasion.

She was an excellent listener

And always set the bar with a positive note

She was also the local therapist

Strangers would tell her their life history or troubles even on a short grocery line

She had an approachable trusting nature

If you had a problem or anxiety

Run it by Nanny

Mom and Dad have traveled the world

As token of their love for the past 60 years

Dad purchased a stunning diamond pendant

Sadly, She’s only worn for the past week

She loved diamonds, she wasn’t a woman to ask for finer things

And though the necklace was a beautiful piece when she showed it to me for the first time

She said wait … let me go get the box

I wasn’t sure what this would lead to

But when she brought the box down it was evident that she was getting an even bigger kick out of showing the necklace off in the box as it was outfitted with an LED light!!

When I think of our mom and dad they’re always “HOME”

and home to me is a place I knew I could always return and would always be welcome

I hope that my children feel the same

We are so fortunate to have parents whom instilled confidence in us with their unconditional Love

Nanny was proud of all our accomplishments

And up until the day she could no longer speak

She would tell anyone that would listen about her children, and grandchildren

We have 3 nurses in our family

Never knowing the role we’d play advocating for her wishes and Palliative Care at the end of her life.

The Most exceptional impact Mom has had on my life is her acceptance and welcoming of Brielle and I into the family. She’d light up to say, this is my granddaughter Brielle!

That is amazing.

Matthew

Nanny didn’t play favorites but I was far and away her favorite. She helped me cheat at board games and taught me the importance of having the last 3 lines of a Christmas story and how to hold your pants up in the rain.

She’d say to Matthew, the work your doing sounds so interesting, But truth be told

I don’t understand Space!

Brielle

So many wonderful memories with Nanny, she radiated love and had such a compassionate and caring presence.

My favorite and most special memory was when she taught me how to crochet while camping in Sebago Lake, Maine.

She was so lively while teaching, you could tell this was a true passion of hers and she was excited to share her expertise!

On my first attempt, I turned what should have been the start to a blanket, into a triangle. Which we laughed about.

She said this was common if you don’t count your stitches… and with those last words of wisdom I was off to the races making blankets, hats and scarves for anyone and everyone.

I’m so grateful for the time she took to teach me and will always feel a special connection to her when crocheting.

Everyone knows Nanny’s crochet skills are next level.. so when I was looking at Christmas toys for Leo and stumbled upon the cutest set of crocheted fruits/veggies I knew just who to call!

And let me tell you, she went ABOVE and BEYOND creating realistic lemons, grapes, bananas, kiwis, leaks! .. the potatoes even had divots that you’d find on a real potato!? They’re amazing and Leo plays with them just about every day.

Alyssa & Samantha

There wasn’t a week that went by that we did not call Nanny to merely hear her voice and giggle on the other end of the phone. When she would pick up we would say “hello my nanny” and she would automatically respond

“hello beautiful”

When greeting each other we would hug

And say “ I Love you Nanny”

And she would respond “I love you more”

From the mouth of babes

Skylar said, Mom – are you happy?

And Samantha replied, Yes I’m happy

“Oh good, says Skylar so that means Nanny is all better”

Yes, Sam replied, she’s all better and in heaven watching over us.

Back tickles were another Nanny Specialty

she would just walk up behind you and start tickling your back and suddenly it could cure all the problems of the world

Many and argument broke out at the fact that she only had two hands and could only attend to one customer at a time

We are grieving for dad who has lost his wife but also his best friend.

We are grateful for the impact that nanny has had on her grandchildren

Who will now teach and pass along their values to Nannys great grandchildren

We have suffered a great loss

Mom, you leave behind an incredible Legacy

You have taught us what is really important in LIFE:

To love, support and care for friends and family !

We are all better off for having known Mom aka “Nanny”

We have lost a wonderful mother, advisor and mentor and we are honored to have been called her daughters
