Zubaida George
June 17, 1964 – November 6, 2021

In a household of four men, Zubaida George reigned as the queen of the family. Known for her kind spirit and sweet smile, Zubaida was the embodiment of one of several meanings of her name in Urdu, which means pure and soft-spoken, or high hill.

Known as Zue to loved ones, Zubaida was called home to Heaven on November 6. She died of complications from cancer at age 57.

Known as well for her adorable laugh and love for nature, she was a God-fearing woman, a devoted wife to Thomas (Rajan) George, and a beloved mother to her sons Jacob, Jonathan, and Joshua. She was a longtime member of the Long Island Brethren Assembly.

Zubaida was born in Karachi, Pakistan, to Fayaz and Fatima Uddin, who predeceased her.

In the early 1980s, she immigrated to the United States and resided with her brothers Zia and Sammi Uddin, in Queens. After she graduated from high school, she worked at a photo-video studio on Parsons Boulevard where she met her future husband, Rajan, whom she lovingly called “Raju.” During their courtship, Rajan invited Zubaida to attend Highland Church in Queens. She would eventually accept Jesus as her savior. The couple married in 1989.

After leaving her job at the photo studio, Zubaida worked as a medical clerk at Coler Hospital, Queens General Hospital and later at Stony Brook Hospital.

The family moved to Long Island in the mid-1990s, first to Brentwood and later settling in St. James. Family members fondly recall Zubaida’s hospitality and generous spirit. They spent cherished moments together. Oldest son Jacob valued his moments cooking and gardening with his mother. Middle son Jonathan loved playing his trombone for his mother. Youngest son Joshua said his mother was on a quest to live a healthier life and together they exercised at a local gym.
Zubaida also loved to travel and had the opportunity to see much of the world. Her favorite place to visit, they said, was her husband’s native land, Kerala.

Among Zubaida’s favorite pastimes was tending to her rose garden and watching sunsets. It is by no coincidence that she left just after sunset, and through her hospital room window the orange glow from the sun, the changing autumn leaves, and a view of the North Shore could be seen. In her final moments she was surrounded by family, and she left this earth peacefully and with all her elegance intact.

Our beloved Zubaida will be dearly and sorely missed by all her friends and family, and the church community. We will cherish her memories until the end of time.
