It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William R. Yates, who departed from life on November 17, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on April 17, 1941, in Brookly, NY, known affectionately as Bill, spent his final days in Ashburn, VA, surrounded by loved ones.
Throughout his remarkable life, Bill was devoted to his family, career, and community. A proud Navy Veteran, he served his country with honor and integrity, values that he carried with him into every endeavor. Bill built a distinguished career in labor leadership, significantly impacting the lives of city letter carriers across the nation. He held several prominent positions within the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), including Executive Vice President of Branch 6000 (Long Island, NY merged) and National Business Agent of Region 15 (NY Metro) from 1986 to 1994. His tireless dedication to the membership of the NALC earned him the role of Secretary-Treasurer of the NALC, a position he held from 1995 until 2002.
Bill is survived by his cherished wife, Constance “Connie”, who stood by his side through every step of their journey together. He is also survived by his beloved children, Christine and James, and four grand-children; Joseph, Anthony (Britney), William and Ryan. He is also survived by his brother Kenneth (Camille). Bill was predeceased by his brother Thomas (Kathy).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Moloney’s Holbrook Funeral Home, 825 Main Street, Holbrook, New York 11741. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River, New York, 11792.
