Walter Paul Sommer, of Lake Grove, NY, passed away on April 15, 2025, at the age of 81. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a man whose strength, love, and generosity touched everyone who knew him.Born on December 10, 1943, Walter was the kind of man who led with his heart and his hands. A retired truck driver, he worked hard his entire life to provide for his family and never shied away from a challenge. He was incredibly strong and selfless - always the first to lend a hand, offer guidance, or simply be there when someone needed him. He was a perfect role model to his children and those who loved him.Walter had a true passion for working with his hands. Whether it was doing auto body work, building projects, or fixing up things around the house, he was extremely talented. He loved the outdoors and spent many happy days camping and relaxing by the water—his peaceful places.Above all else, Walter loved his family fiercely. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (Zabriskie) Sommer, and his seven children: Karen Williams-Sommer, Ann Sommer-Schevis (Craig Schevis), John Williams (Jennifer Del Rio), George Williams (Heather Williams), Jody Sommer, Billie Jo Sommer, and Robert Sommer. He was the cherished grandfather of sixteen grandchildren, listed by age: Johnathan, 36 (Chyna); Samantha, 34; Christopher, 33 (Kathy Ann); Jacquelyn, 32; Jessica, 31; Amanda, 29 (Nick); Elizabeth, 22; Christina, 20; Cara, 18; Aiden, 18; Emma, 12; Isabel, 12; Jacob, 11; Damien, 11; Sophia, 10; and Christopher, 9.
