In 1930 Walter was the 9th one born to Ellsworth and Julie Langdon. His early life was filled with boat races with his father and older brothers, They all loved the sport.
He watched and learned, and soon he fulfilled his dream of owning his own motor. He constructed one of wood and metal parts. He then clamped it on his bed, the year was 1940 and engines were unavailable. His older sister Ruth bought him a 4 ½ Johnson off the black market, and clamped it on the bed. That was all he needed, the dream was born. At the age of 17 he entered and won the Virginia Mayo Trophy.
Walter was then drafted into the United States Marines and served in the Korean War. A year after serving in the war he met and married Anita, and together they raised four children. On one summer day while mowing the lawn he heard the sounds of boats racing in the bay. That’s all it took, and the dream was reborn.
He acquired N-109, named it “nonsense”. It became a family effort with the largest and hardest working pit crew.
In 1969 he founded Eastern Outboard Repair in Senix Marina. The local Bay Men called him “The Doctor” A name well deserved.
He loved his work. Walter built 3 antique running engines, always took calls and even offered free advice. He had a great sense of humor and loved to talk. He will be missed by family, friends and the community. Walter is survived by his loving wife Anita, and his children Walter Jr., Kelly and Victoria. He is proceeded in death by his son Edward.
