Vito A. Mangialardi

d. December 28, 2020

Vito was born in New York City on March 2, 1941 to Anna and Angelo Mangialardi.  He passed away on December 28, 2020 in his 79th year.

Growing up in Astoria, Queens he was surrounded by many whom he loved and loved him.  As a youth, he developed a passion for sports as well as a deep understanding of the importance of family and faith.  As a teenager, he graduated from the New York School of Printing in 1959.

As a student-athlete, he competed at a high level in multiple sports, most prominently baseball.  Sports became an important part of his life as he learned and taught many lessons while competing, coaching and discussing the character and perseverance needed to be successful as both an athlete and a person.

In 1962, he married Geraldine McCloskey and they began their journey.  Together they raised four children of their own as well as helping raise Geraldine’s youngest sister.  Their commitment to each other has been an inspiration to their entire family.

Consistent with the values by which he lived, he joined the NYPD in 1963.  Although his law enforcement career was cut short due to serious injuries, he served honorably until his retirement in 1975.  After leaving the NYPD, he continued working and ended his career as a field investigator for GEICO.

Throughout his life, he spent much time devoted to others.  Coaching his children, supporting his community in many ways, especially his parish at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church where he served as an usher and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.  Vito’s faith was unquestioned.  It gave him so much and guided him through his life.  His faith gave him peace, courage and an ability to always have the strength to endure life’s challenges while also being able to support and encourage others no matter how difficult his own challenges may have been.

Later in life, he enjoyed spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, friends and his ENTIRE extended family which filled him with joy.

Beloved Husband of Geraldine(deceased); Devoted Father of Michael(Lisa), Martin(Kathleen), Denise Terovolas(John), Matthew(Maureen); Dear Brother of Jacqueline Gabriellini(Charles) and Nicolette Nolan(Joseph); Cherished Grandpa of James, Nicholas, Nicole, Alexandra, Sara, Alexander and Michael.  Loving Godfather of Peter, Christine, Jean Marie, Karen, Stephen, James, Andrea, and dear Uncle of many Nieces and Nephews.

MAY HE REST IN PEACE!
