Virginia Aliquo, 88, died May 5, 2020, in Port Jefferson, New York. A life-long New Yorker, Virginia was born August 10, 1931, to Sylvia Fidele and Vincent Primerano in New Rochelle, New York. Virginia met her husband Salvatore (d.2010) in 1952 at a church dance. They married on February 14, 1953 and went on to raise four children on Long Island: Suzann (John) of Springfield, VA, Sally (d. 2014) (Sylvester) of Endicott, NY, Nancy (Ken) of Silver Spring, MD, and Michael (Ann) of Farmingville, NY. She was a homemaker while her husband worked for the NYFD, and they eventually retired to Johnson City, NY. She was the proud grandmother to Suzann Marie (Nate), Marisa (Tim), Annette (Jeff), Anthony (Brittney), Virginia, Michelle (Josh), Monica, Gordon (Charlotte), and Adrianna; and great-grandmother to Jacob, Rebekah, Thomas, Luccia, Carly, and Dominic. Virginia is survived by her sister Barbara and brother Vinnie (Tony); her sister Veronica pre-deceased her in 2018. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Virginia was a dedicated mother first and foremost, and proud of her family. Virginia was also proud of her southern Italian heritage. A strong Christian woman, she was principled, spirited, fiercely loyal to those she loved, and believed in equal justice and opportunity for all. Virginia valued and strongly encouraged the pursuit of higher education which she believed provides a strong intellectual and economic foundation to face life’s challenges. She was proud that all of her children and grandchildren completed college and that some obtained graduate degrees. Virginia will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Virginia will be interred at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.
