Huntington, N.Y. — Vincent F. De Joy, 91, died February 14, 2020, after a courageous, three-year battle with various illnesses. The fortitude he exhibited during his valiant struggle will be well remembered by all those who loved and supported him throughout his ordeal, including his daughter, caregivers, doctors, nurses, dear friends, and neighbors.
Vincent (or “Vinny,” as he was known to friends) worked for more than 25 years as a guidance counselor at Bethpage High School in Bethpage, N.Y. He was beloved by his students, many of whom had kept in touch with him over the decades since he retired.
Vinny served in the US Army in Korea from August 1952 to August 1954 and was a graduate of Seton Hall University and Columbia University.
Vinny will perhaps best be remembered for his extreme thoughtfulness of and kindness to others; his devout Catholicism; his devotion to his only child, Christine; and his love of travel, wine, all things Italian, and, much to his recent frustration, the Jets and Mets.
Vinny is survived by his daughter, Christine “Chris” DeJoy of Alexandria, Va.; his cousin Matilda Wagner of Hudson, N.Y.; his dearest friends; and his outstanding, tireless caregivers Trish McHale and Rosa Wilson.
Your generous, loving spirit will be with us every day, Vinny. We will miss you dearly.
