Vincent Da Silva
December 28, 1922-June 29, 2024
Vincent Da Silva of Long Island, NY was born 102 years ago on the island of St. Vincent in the Cape Verde Islands. He left home at the age of 17 to begin life as a seaman. He traveled to New York where he met Ester, the love of his life. The two married in 1945. Vincent had tremendous pride that he had served the US in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was part of the Murmansk Run and was given responsibility on multiple missions throughout the war. They brought him all over the Mediterranean, Africa and Southeast Asia. Due to his travels and flare for languages he was multi-lingual and spoke six fluently. After the war he was a founding member of the Dynamic Painting company. Later he would go out on his own and form the Da Silva Painting company. He was a successful businessman and was fortunate to retire early to North Carolina where he and Ester spent 33 happy years.
