Victor Hugo Cabezas Sr. was born in Colón, Panama on December 23, 1944 to Juan Victor Hugo Cabezas and Isidora (Guzman) Cabezas. He is the oldest of four children and succeeded by Luis, Ricardo and Jan Patricia. Don Juan Victor Hugo was a merchant marine and the family immigrated to New York City, USA in 1953 when Victor was 8. He attended RC Parish of Saint Monica elementary school in Yorkville, NYC and later went on to Samuel Gompers High School. After high school, he joined the Air Force where he was a radio operator and learned basic graphic art design skills. His Air Force duties took him to Biloxi, Mississippi and Goose Bay, Labrador and yielded stories he would later often tell his children. While stationed in Texas, Victor met Judith Farias and the couple married and had Gina Marie and Victor Jr. His first marriage ended in divorce. In NYC with his two children, Victor Sr. met Miriam Garcia. The couple married on April 16, 1972, and the family of four was expanded to include Adam Sean. While raising his young family, he attended the School of Visual Arts to follow his passion for graphic arts. In 1978, the New York City based family relocated to Long Island and expanded again with the birth of Brian Frederick. Victor worked as a freelance graphic artist for many years and was employed by Avon from 1970 until he retired in 2007. Never one to settle down, Victor continued to work part-time at Sachem School District until the COVID pandemic started. Victor was passionate about music. He owned a wide assortment of music and even sang “The Twelfth of Never”, popularly sung by Johnny Mathis, at his sister-in-law’s wedding. A fan of traveling, perhaps inspired by his father’s own travels, he was known for impromptu car trips to see family in Rhode Island and Florida before taking more extensive trips in the golden age of retirement. He is perhaps best known to many for his good nature and welcoming spirit, which he exhibited at all the family’s BBQs and parties, and his generosity. Victor passed away on October 1, 2021, after complications from cancer surgery surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Miriam, four children and their spouses, three siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, family in Panama, and many caring friends. He was immensely loved and will be truly missed.
