Victor Alfonso Hoyos

Victor Alfonso Hoyos, 93, of College Point, left this earth to reunite with his wife, Maria “Maruja”, his grandson, Justin, his parents, Victor and Felicidad, his sisters Livia Pizarro and Beatriz Palacios on Monday April 24, 2023.

Alfonso was born in Cali, Colombia in February 1930. He enrolled in the Colombian Navy for two years and served as Merchant Marine for several years later, before he settled down in College Point, New York with Maruja to raise their seven children. Alfonso was employed and retired from Edo Corporation and Abbott Corp as a machinist.

He was a natural athlete involved in boxing, powerlifting, gymnastics,and soccer and in his retired years karate and cycling. He loved music and encouraged a variety of genres in music to his children as he learned to play the saxophone. Alfonso and Maruja were involved with Saint Fidelis Catholic Church as a founding member of the Latin community. Alfonso was proud of both his Colombian heritage and his established roots in the United States where he became a proud American Citizen.

He leaves to mourn seven children: Maria Cristina McCauley, Luz, Carlos, Constanza Pandolfo (Jimmy), Beatriz (Philip Ash III), Victor (Jody) and Patricia Fraser (Rob), thirteen grandchildren: Rhiannon Angeles (Franklin), Gabriella Lesley (Rob), Reuben, Miles, Matthew, Alyssa, Victor A, Victor J. , Anthony, Nicole, Sophia, and Arianna; five great grandchildren: Frankie, Max, Robbie, Penelope and Jaxson. In addition, he leaves behind his brother, Diego and his family, family in Colombia and many close friends that are surrogate family members to the Hoyos family: Anna and Family, late Elisa and family, Nina and family, Beatriz T. and family late Hernando and Maria Elena Casas and family.

Though his time on this earth has now elapsed, he leaves behind a legacy that, much like he, will never be forgotten. We love you Pa. Rest in peace.
