Some thoughts on Tom
After growing up in Garrison Beach, Tom Morrison and his wife Phyllis moved to Commack to raise their family. Then, in 1986, they retired to Towanda, Pennsylvania to enjoy their dream home on 45 acres of land. Their home was always filled with family. Over the last 2 ½ they returned to New York to live.
He was the guy who would whistle as he walked through the local stores. He was a friend to everyone—his smile and baby blues brightening up every place he went.
Tom was always a provider for his family, whom he enjoyed so much. He extended generosity and wisdom to everyone. His many ideas and creative plans for a better life created lively discussions which he filled the air of many a McDonald’s coffee stop.
Tom was a “dyed in the wool” fireman. When you think of a NYFD fireman: that was Tom! For 21 years he served: brave and fearless, determined to help, save, and give his all. He was always at this best when steering the hook and ladder rig from the rear.
He could sing all the old Scottish songs, which he did along with his wife Phyllis. He was an accordion player, a piano player.
From water fights in the kitchen to his famous Fire House Ziti, Tom has made his mark on many.
He leaves behind bags of Tootsie Pops, His love for Shepherd’s Pie, and Stuffed peppers.
Mostly, Tom Morrison will be remembered for his love for his wife Phyllis. They still held hands every day, even after 69 years of marriage.
