Thomas Hayes

Thomas Hayes, age 85, of Ridge, NY and formerly Bohemia, NY passed away on October 10, 2024.

Thomas (Tommy) was born in Tipperary Ireland where he was one of ten children. After arriving in the US as a young man he met his wife of 63 years, Pauline, with whom he raised two children, Eileen and Jackie.

Tom came to this country with a clean shirt, a couple of pounds in his pocket, and a dream. From these humble beginnings, he worked his way up from the bottom of the construction trades, eventually retiring as the vice president of the company he worked for. Tom was widely known in the construction industry and was deeply respected by the many young immigrants from Ireland that he set up in employment and whom he mentored throughout their careers.

Tom was a kind and generous man who was adored by his large extended family and even larger circle of friends. He led an incredibly full life and his larger-than-life personality lit up any room he entered. He had a great sense of humor and was always quick with a story or a joke- he could tell a joke better than anyone. He had a unique ability to make everyone he encountered in life feel as if they had a special and close relationship with him. He cherished the strong relationships he had with his many close friends and relatives who all are heartbroken by his passing.

In addition to the love for his family, Tom followed many other passions including his love of golf, horse racing, dog racing, fishing and gardening.

Tom is survived by Pauline, his daughters Eileen and Jackie, sons in law Matt and David, grandchildren Alex, Erika, Andy, and Tommy, and great grandchildren, Wynnie, Daphne and Tatum.

The family will be holding a private memorial service.
