Theresa Rosalie Hind was the third of six children born to John and Augusta D’Agostino in Brooklyn, NY on October 13th, 1943. As a young girl, she was surrounded by her siblings, cousins, Aunts and Uncles. She had many fond memories of those family gatherings. Oh, the stories she’d tell! Those days also sparked a passion for her love for the New York Yankees. She continued to follow them every day until her passing.
Her first marriage to Joseph Petre, blessed her with four beautiful children (Joseph, Michael, Jennifer and Justine.) After his untimely passing, her second marriage to Andrew Hind added two wonderful boys (Andrew and Thomas) to the family tree. She raised her six children in Islip Terrace on Long Island but still maintained close ties to her beloved Brooklyn, often traveling to Coney Island for a Nathan’s hot dog or L and B Spumoni Gardens for a Sicilian slice and a lemon ice.
Whether Theresa was coaching Little League, singing karaoke at family gatherings, driving her school bus, or selling leather goods at the flea market, she did so with passion, purpose, and pride! She was a remarkable person, friend, mother and grandmother… often attending games, concerts, and various milestones for her twenty grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In her later years she especially enjoyed cooking for the masses, traveling to places all over the world, visiting cousins, her Friday night gatherings with dear friends, excursions to Atlantic City, Fire Island, St. Pete Beach, and Lake Geroge to name a few. She loved spending time with companion Lorraine Sears, playing her daily numbers, scratch offs, and crazy 8’s, going to the movies, watching The Honeymooners, sitting at the Spanish 21 table, betting an occasional horse race and she inspired our famous left – right – center games at each and every holiday celebration. Her presence and words of wisdom (which later became known as Terryisms) will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on forever in the fabric of our lives!
