Susan Doherty of Suffolk County passed away peacefully at Long Island Community Hospital on Friday morning, November 8, 2024.
Susan was born in Manhattan on September 7, 1953 to Willie Irene Russ and Timothy O’Neill. As a young girl her family moved to North Massapequa, Long Island where she graduated from Farmingdale High School in 1971. Susan entered the healthcare field first as a medical tech at Winthrop Hospital, then after some time away to raise her two daughters, Susan spent the rest of her career as an EEG technician for pediatric neurologists.
Known most for her quick wit and saucy sense of humor, Susan was the kind of person you never forgot once meeting. She was a woman of remarkable spirit with a levelheaded approach to life and a persistent drive for independence. Susan had a way of putting the children around her at ease, from those she cared for in the office to those that filled her backyard and basement. She was tough with boundaries, and she liked to bend the rules. She raised her daughters to value inner strength and sovereignty and taught them how to leave room for mystery.
Susan was predeceased by both her parents and siblings Stephen O’Neill and Martha Clement. She is survived by her siblings Timothy O’Neill and Marianne O’Neill, her two daughters Colleen Curtis (John), Irene Doherty-Coleman (William) and two grandchildren Charles Curtis and Brady Curtis.
