Steven W. Young, 65, of Sayville, NY, passed away on September 15, 2024. Well-known in the Sayville and Fire Island communities for his passion and talent in building iconic Fire Island homes, Steven was admired not only for his craftsmanship but also for his incredible generosity and selflessness. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 19, 1958, to Robert and Audrea Young, Steven grew up in Sayville, NY, the oldest of four children. He was an accomplished swimmer at Sayville High School (Class of 1976) before moving on to Bucknell University where he captained the swim team, graduating in 1980.In 1980, Steven married his high school sweetheart, Dawn Horvath, and settled down in Sayville where they raised three children together. Over decades, he built successful construction and freight businesses servicing the Fire Island communities while finding the time to coach several of his children's youth soccer and hockey teams.A beloved member of the community and a cherished husband, father, brother, and Pop-Pop, Steven will be remembered for his kind heart, generosity, and the lasting contributions he made to his community and loved ones. He was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially while on the water, boating, and enjoying the beach. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched and the memories shared with family and friends.Steven is survived by his loving wife, Dawn; his two sons, Travis (Megan), Tyler (Regina); his daughter, Morgan (Greg); and his four adored grandchildren, Brooklyn, Theodore, Carter, and Payton. Steven is also survived by his brother, Peter (Rita), and his sisters, Karen (Bill) and Susan (Rob).

The family invites anyone to say a few words about their memories of Steven at the evening service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Steven W. Young Memorial Fund at Scripps Research (https://scripps.edu/youngmemorial). This fund will honor Steven’s life and legacy by supporting colon cancer research. Your generosity will ensure that Steven’s memory lives on in advancing research to find a cure for cancer.
