Stephen McGerty

Stephen J. McGerty age 75, passed peacefully September 6, 2024 at his home in Stoddard, NH surrounded by family and friends. 

 Stephen was born in Rockville Center, NY to the late Michael McGerty and Rose Cappellani. He grew up in West Hempstead, NY and was a member of West Hempstead Fire Department. 

 In 1969 he enlisted in the Army to serve his country as a Sergent, aircraft mechanic and firefighter during the Vietnam War for three years. 

 He was a firefighter for over 55 years. He served the Holbrook Fire Department as a two term Fire Chief and as an elected Fire Commissioner for the District. He worked in the Fire Rescue Department of MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma, NY.

 Following his retirement, Stephen moved to Stoddard, NH and served as Fire Chief for 5 years on the Stoddard Fire and Rescue Department. In addition, he was elected to the board of Selectman for two terms. 

 He is survived by his loving wife Deborah and was a cherished father to Richard Paye (Claudia), Tara Trinkle, Stephen P. McGerty (Loren) and was predeceased by his daughter Kathryn. Adored grandfather to Stephanie, Richard, Cameron, Brittany, Alexis, McKenzie, Hudson and Dakota.

 He served his country and community with pride and dignity. Stephen was loved for his sense of humor and loyalty and was admired by all who knew him.

 Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.

 Services will continue in Holbrook, NY with visitation at the Holbrook Fire Department, 390 Terry Boulevard, Holbrook, on Thursday, September 12th from …… A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at ……am at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1370 Grundy Avenue, Holbrook. Burial with military honors will follow the mass in the Calverton National Cemetery, 

 Services in New York are entrusted to Moloney Holbrook Funeral Home.
