Stephen Michael Hardy (1953-2023)

Stephen Michael Hardy, 70, of Central Islip, passed away on March 26, 2023, after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer.

Born on January 11, 1953, in Astoria, NY, to Robert and Charlotte Hardy, Stephen grew up alongside his siblings Robert, Patricia, and Virginia. A life-long Long Islander, Stephen eventually settled in Central Islip, where he met the love of his life, Mary DeGrandis, in 1979. They were married on August 13th, 1988, and together raised two children, Stephanie and Zachary. Stephen was also a loving father to Tangerine.

Stephen was a skilled diesel mechanic by trade, and his work ethic was something to admire.

Outside of work, Stephen had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles, rock ‘n’ roll music, and working with his hands. His craftsmanship could be seen in his woodworking and gardening projects, where he always took great pride in his unique creations. He rarely missed a football Sunday with his friends, and enjoyed reality and gossip TV more than any man his age should.

Stephen’s family and friends will remember him for his fun-loving spirit, loyalty, and gentle soul. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service in memory of Stephen will be held on Thursday, March 30th at 10:00am at St. John of God Church in Central Islip.

Rest easy, Hardman. We were lucky to love you.

Services for Stephen M. Hardy will be held at Moloney Funeral Home in Central Islip on March 29, 2023 between the hours of 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm.
