Shiela Thompson

Shiela Thompson departed on October 1, 2022, but not without a fight to hold onto life. Throughout her life, Shiela worked several jobs until she found her niche. In 1989, she joined the staff of NYC Victims Service Unit. She excelled in her performance and was promoted to Supervisor in 2001. She was a very affectionate and kind-hearted person. Her coworkers loved her. Ultimately, she transferred to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office as a Unit Manager until her retirement in 2017.  Shiela was a very kind and giving woman. She loved to watch novellas, shop, and to feed people. She had a great passion for cooking. Some of the best oxtails, stew chicken and rice came from her kitchen! Her love for family led her to become the mother of her late sister’s four children. Shiela divorced and found love again with Marco Polo Martínez, whom she married in July of 2018. Devoted daughter of The Late Roy Rankin and is survived by her cherished mother Norma Simons. She leaves behind her loving husband, Marco Polo Martínez. Her beloved children Clint, Joshua, Shamel, Shaquana, Shawn, and Shavonne. Her grandchildren Marquis, Kaden, Kayla, Keelie, Isaiah, Savannah, Josiah, Brianna, Elias, Shavonne, Dashawn, Zeon and Anayah. She is survived by her sister Ivonne Rankin and Renee Spencer. Was loved by her siblings The Late Roberto Rankin, The Late Dexter Simmons, The Late Naydia Rankin, and The Late Dawn Simmons – Adams. Shiela also leaves behind her cherished nieces and nephews Barbara Rankin (and her daughter Heaven Weekes), Pamela Rankin (and her sons Jahmani Rankin Burke and Hakyim Hamilton), Devon Smith Rankin, Kaliah Spencers, Shannon Murray, Jonel Murray, and Kyle Jacobs. Message from her beloved children… “They say there is a reason, they say time will heal; neither time or reason will change the way I feel. Gone are the days we used to share. But in my heart, you will always be there. The gates of memories will never close; I miss you more than anybody knows… Love and miss you everyday, till we meet again. Always and forever.” Visitation for Shiela will be held at Moloney’s Funeral Home in Central Islip on October 10, 2022 between the hours of 5:00-9:00pm.
