Saverio Campano, passed into eternal life on August 22, 2015 at the age of 79, surrounded by his family who loved him deeply.
Saverio was born into a hard-working, proud Italian-American immigrant family. He is predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Assunta, and his siblings: Rosie, Mary, Pat, Teresa, and Philly. His dear brother Angelo, who has loved and supported him, especially through his recent illnesses, survives him.
He is also survived by his three daughters, their husbands and children: Dawn Baker (Doug) of Albany, NY; Andrea Casserly (Joe) of Farmingville, NY and & Michelle Hawley (John) of Amityville, NY and Marie Campano, his childhood neighbor, lifelong friend and wife for 32 years. His grandchildren, Michela, Joseph, Jaydon and Gabriella were the light of his life, bringing him much joy.
Saverio was a warm, generous, intelligent, creative and athletic person. He was self-taught in photography, built his own darkroom and explored “trick photography” long before the days of digital design. He loved growing vegetables and he especially enjoyed tending to and reaping the harvest of his fig tree. Saverio was a sports enthusiast from his youth, growing up playing baseball in the days of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He loved nature. He had many happy memories of the hunting excursions he took each year with his best buddy Frank, his brothers and the guys. Saverio enjoyed cooking traditional Italian meals for his family and he baked a great apple pie.
Saverio worked hard all his life providing for his family. He always enjoyed his work. He retired as a truck driver for Waldbaum’s supermarkets, but in his younger years he also worked in NYC in construction and in his twenties, he even served a year as a NYC taxi cab driver.
He was beloved “Uncle Sammy” to his many nieces and nephews, enjoyed by his coworkers and all who knew him. He was a wonderful man, loved by so many.
He had a strong faith in Jesus Christ. He looked for “the face of Jesus” and was always drawn to the Shroud of Turin. And now we rejoice that he is with God, at peace in his eternal life.
