Russell E. Damm

On Friday, November 16, 2018, Russell E. Damm, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 88.
Rus was born on August 4, 1930 in Queens, NY to William and Elizabeth Damm. On September 4, 1961 he married his wife Lillian, living happily in Centereach, NY until her passing in 2009. They raised two sons, Kevin and Scott.
Rus began his lifelong career of public service by enlisting in the Air Force right out of high school. After a 3 year stint at Clark Air Force Base culminating in the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Military Police, he re-enlisted the very next day into the Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class at Fort Benning, GA. Without skipping a beat, he became a Nassau County Police Officer where he proudly served for 31 years in the Highway Patrol, Emergency Services Bureau and lastly in EVOC, retiring in 1986.
Never seeking any acknowledgement for his faithful service in the armed forces or as a police officer and in final recognition of his gentlemanly character, he will be receiving full military honors as well as a Highway Patrol escort. For this we are grateful.
Rus is survived by his two children, Kevin (Monica) and Scott (Joseph), two grandchildren, Jesse and Eric, his sister Betty and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, wife and brothers Donald, Philip, Valentine, and William.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
An Association of Retired Police Officers (ARPO) bereavement service will be held on Saturday, November 24 at 3PM. A Final Salute will be performed at the end of the service.
Interment will be on Monday, November 26, 2018 at Calverton National Cemetery after a brief service at Moloney’s Lake Funeral Home at 10:45AM.
