Robert Joseph Carleton II

Robert Joseph Carleton II (“Bob,” “Bobby,” or “Juda”) of Holbrook, NY passed away peacefully on January 7, 2023. He was 59 years old.
Born to Robert Joseph Carleton I (“Bob”) and Diane Teresa Carleton on April 17, 1963, Bobby was the only son in a happy and tightknit family. He grew up in Holbrook, NY and was a lifelong resident of Long Island.
A 1982 graduate of Sachem High School, Bobby gained recognition as an accomplished athlete.
Bobby sought out a career with the Metropolitan Transit Association’s Long Island Railroad, working until his retirement in 2020. With his restless energy, Bobby also managed a successful power washing business in Suffolk County.
Of all the many roles that Bobby enjoyed in life, the most cherished was that of father to his sons Christopher Carleton (“Chris”) and Patrick Carleton (“Pat”). It was with the greatest of pride that Bobby helped celebrate the wedding of his son Chris to Lori (Thoericht) Carleton in May 2022.
Throughout his life, Bobby was a devoted sports enthusiast and sports fan. He cultivated a love of skiing early in life. In retirement he pursued a passion for golf, which he played weekly. Bobby loved to fish, whether it be quiet and local, or on charters off Montauk in search of tuna. No home town team could ask for a better fan, and Bobby’s dedication to the NY Yankees and the NY Giants never wavered, through good seasons and bad.
Yet it is something unique to Bobby that the sum of life’s endeavors and passions does not fully measure the man. In the truest sense, those who knew Bobby know they lost a singular shining light.
No one had a bigger heart. No one was more generous. No one was more outgoing, social, or friendly. Bobby’s natural authenticity and exuberance made him approachable to everyone, from all walks of life, which opened to those who met him a world of warmth, humor, and good cheer. Even if you met him only once, you rarely forgot Bobby Carleton. By simply being himself, he brought out the best in all of us. It was his gift. The world will shine less brightly with his passing.
Bobby is survived by his parents, Bob and Diane Carleton of Holbrook, NY, his siblings, Linda Carleton, Kathleen Carleton, Colleen Cosgro and Diane Rudman, and nieces and nephews, Michael Reilly, Connor Reilly, Katie Reilly, Kaitlyn Cosgro, Ryan Cosgro, Sean Cosgro, Brian Rudman and Kevin Rudman.
Calling hours at Moloney’s Holbrook Funeral Home will be held on Thursday, January 12th with two visitations, between 2pm-4pm, and 7pm-9pm, 825 Main Street, Holbrook, NY 11741. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Good Shepard, on Friday, January 13th at 11am, 170 Grundy Avenue, Holbrook, NY 11741.
