Richard Paul Russo was 79 years old when he passed away peacefully on Monday September 12, 2022.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Russo, his sister Carole Devine and husband Glen, his son, Joseph Russo, his daughter Kathleen Barbour and husband Don, his grandchildren Jacquelyn Barbour and husband Dan Nash , Daniel Barbour, Katelyn Barbour, and great grandchild Amelia Nash.
Richard was married for 45 years to his loving wife, Sandra. They met while both teaching in the Rocky Point School District.
They developed their delightful life around their careers, hobbies, travel and family. One of Sandra’s favorite memories of Richard was
Richard was an English and Drama Teacher at Rocky Point Jr and Senior High School for 29 years. He received a Master of Arts from Visual and Performing Arts, C.W. Post Campus in 1985. His high school students loved him immensely for guiding their lives which continued into their adulthood.
He received multiple awards from New Hampshire Theater, Best Director for Tally’s Folly and Glass Menagerie, Best Drama for Glass Menagerie and Best Actor for Halpern and Johnson performed at M & D Productions which he was involved with for 20 years. He was very committed to the authenticity and esteem of M & D, serving as a past Board Member and providing Acting Workshops
He was an avid fisherman, skiing Instructor and a Director of Ski School at Wild Cat Mountain for 15 years. He was a hiker, cyclist, boater, kayaker, traveler, Yankee Fan, basketball, baseball and never one to miss a minute of life. His competitive spirit was remarkable.
One of his great loves was his German Shepherds, Dante and Zorro. They clocked many miles of hiking in the mountains of New Hampshire. It was amazing how much they loved walking, playing, hiking or swimming in the river. He gave his time to the Conway Area Humane Society and sat on their Board of Directors.
Richard would want to be remembered for his compassionate nature, dedication to many interests, and sense of humor.
