Richard F. Kamping

d. March 21, 2025

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Richard F. Kamping. He passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025. Richard was born on February 1, 1950, in the Bronx, NY, to his beloved parents, Florence & George.

Richard was the loving husband of Darlene for 30 years and a cherished father to Kenneth (wife Kerri), Kevin, and Kristine. He was also a proud and devoted uncle to Patrick, stepping in as a father figure when needed.

For those who had the pleasure of knowing Richard, they will remember him as an adventurous spirit. As a young boy, Richard’s family made annual trips to Seaside Heights, which would hold a special place in his heart. In his early adulthood, Richard moved to Las Vegas, where he worked as a security guard, sometimes even looking after Elvis Presley—a story he loved to share with family and friends. After some years, Richard returned to New York, where his father helped him secure a job with the Queens Surface Bus Company, where he worked for 35 years.

Richard met Darlene May 1993 on a blind date at a bowling alley, and their bond quickly grew. Excited to start their lives together, they were married in 1994. Richard had a love for cooking and would often prepare meals for his family and co-workers. He loved to be involved in the kitchen, whether at home or at work, always ready to lend a hand and share his culinary skills.

Beyond cooking, Richard had a passion for travel, and he and Darlene cherished their yearly trips to Pennsylvania. Richard was also an avid sports fan, particularly baseball, and was a lifelong Mets supporter. In his younger years, Richard played softball in a local league in Queens. Later, he would assist in coaching Kevin’s little league baseball teams, proudly watching his children grow. He had a deep love for football and bowling as well. In their younger years, Richard and Darlene enjoyed bowling together, and later they shared the joy of watching their children grow up in the sport.

Richard’s passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; his sister, Sandra; his son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Kerri; his son Kevin; and his daughter Kristine.

Visitation will be held at Moloney’s Holbrook Funeral Home on Friday, April 4th, from 2:00–4:00 pm and 7:00–9:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sayville on Saturday, April 5th, at 10:00 am.
