Richard J. Ambrose

d. February 23, 2018

Richard (Richie, Rick) J. Ambrose, 75, of Ronkonkoma, NY passed away peaceful with his family by his side on Friday, February 23, 2018.

Richard was born February 23, 1943 in Manhattan, NY to George and Dorothy (Leboda) Ambrose where he grew up in Elmont, NY. He graduated from Sewanhaka High School in 1960. Before joining the New York City Highway Patrol in 1964, Richard worked for Grumman. Richard served proudly on the NY Highway Patrol Police force for 22 years (13 years on Motorcycle Patrol and 9 years in a squad car) before retiring in July of 1985.  After retiring from the Police Department, Richard worked as an insurance investigator for The Robert Plan Corporation, Bethpage, NY until he retired from working in 1999.  After several years of “retirement” Rick started a limo service “Miss Daisy” exclusively servicing the residents of Jefferson Ferry in South Setauket where his mother resided.

Richard loved spending time with his family and friends.

If anyone needed a hand, he provided two. He could fix anything and would often be seen covered in grease under the hood of a car. He owned every tool known to man and if you needed it, he came along to make sure you did the job right. He was an amazing cook and would not allow his wife near the stove except to clean up when he was finished preparing his masterpieces. Rick had a quirky sense of humor and loved making people laugh with his oddball jokes.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Migdalia (Micki) (Cruz) Ambrose of 47 years, and their children; Alexander Ambrose and his wife, Deanna and their two children Timothy and Avangeline of Holtsville, NY; his daughter Elizabeth (Bliss) and her husband BJ of Ithaca, NY and their three children, Sage, Kenzie and Trey, and his children from a prior marriage, Lorraine, Paul and John and their children; His beloved brother Robert and his wife Emily Ambrose of Farmingville, NY along with several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people donate blood in his memory. This generous act from others provided him and his family with more precious time together. They wish to pass this gift to others who also face Cancer.
