Richard Cappellani, beloved husband of Janet, loving father of Theresa Botti (Shawn) and Jacqueline Cappellani, dear brother of Jerome (Catherine), and cherished grandfather of Shawn and Kaitlyn, passed away December 25, 2020, at the age of 65. Richard was born July 8, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY to Jerome and Marie. He grew up in Mineola. Richard in his youth was full of life and energy, much to the chagrin of his parents. He loved joking of his wild past. This all changed when he met Janet, the love of his life. They were never separated again. Together with Janet nothing would stop Richard from accomplishing all he wanted in life. Richard earned his degree in Applied Science from SUNY Farmingdale. His commitment, work ethic, and ambition would serve him well as he rose from a mechanic and advanced to Vice-President of Business Development for a major contracting firm. He truly loved his career. Anyone that had the honor of speaking with him about boilers and chillers, could not hope to not be inspired to go into the field themselves. He was deeply respected within his industry and by his colleagues. Richard would speak of construction projects with such exuberance and excitement that it was hard not to smile. All of that was nothing compared to how much Richard loved and cared for his family. He raised his family in Lindenhurst and Holtsville, NY. He enjoyed attending his girls’ events whether it was sports or horseback riding. He happily continued with his grandchildren, going to Shawnie’s soccer games. He got a kick out of Kaitlyn’s dramatic expressions and how she loves to sing. Richard could not help but beam with pride and love, any time he spoke of his family. Any that spoke with him could feel his love and devotion as his face would lite up. After a “short” conversation; hearing every detail about soccer games, school events, and work news, one could not help but feel like they were now in the circle. To Richard, everyone was close family, and treated the same. Friends, and even friends of friends, were all treated like close family as well. He was a man that loved life, always happy, smiling all the time and always found the good in everything in life. It was impossible to not be moved by his optimism and excitement for his family, his life, and his career. He had passion for traveling, cars, especially his Corvette and Mustang, and loved the water, whether he was swimming, snorkeling or just admiring the view. He was a true family man whose family always came first. He will be immensely missed by all the lives that he has touched.
