Raymond Earl Hall

d. October 20, 1950

Emblem

Raymond was born to parents King & China (Linger) Hall in Mt. Ash, KY. He was a brother to Herman, Drexal, William, James and Clara. While born in Kentucky, Jellico Tennessee was where he was raised and lived as an adult and that was home to him.

Raymond had three sons, Raymond, Robert & Eugene, with his first wife Jean. At the time of his passing Raymond was married to his second wife Elizabeth and was stepfather to Patricia and Dixie.

Raymond was a career military man who enlisted in the US Army Infantry in 1927. He rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Prisoner of War Medal (twice), Army Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantryman Badge (twice), Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Honorable Service Lapel Button – World War II, Lapel Button for Service Prior to 8 September 1939, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea-Korean War Service Medal, and Republic of Korea-Presidential Unit Citation for his exemplary service to our country.

Raymond served honorably in both WWII and the Korean War and had the unfortunate fate of being held as a POW during both wars. It was during his time as a POW in Korea, while on the Seoul-Pyongyang death march, that he was executed at the Sunchon Tunnel Massacre. His parents, widow and sons tried endlessly to have his remains returned for a proper burial, but due to circumstances beyond its control, the Army was unable to do so until now, and his surviving grandchildren Lisa, Donna & Raymond are eternally grateful & honored to be a part of this.

Raymond will be buried in Calverton National Cemetery with the full military honors that he deserves.
