Some thoughts on Phyllis
Growing up in Garrison Beach as friends, Phyllis and Tom Morrison married and moved to Commack, New York to raise their family. In 1986, they retired to Towanda, Pennsylvania. There they enjoyed their dream home on 45 acres of land. Their home was often filled with family. While some lived locally, others traveled enticed by a serving of Shepherd’s Pie, Raisin Cake and Homemade Short Bread. They ultimately returned to New York to begin to live out the last season of their life together.
If you looked up the word mom, Phyllis’ picture would be there. She had no desire for the corporate world. She instead poured her whole self into Tom, her children, and their extended family. Best job ever!Phyllis was the cook and the cleaner. If it even looked dirty Phyllis was on it. No dirt could give her a challenge. She was often found washing things down and preparing custom meal after custom meal for her growing five children. To this day she still knows who likes what and who does not.Her Lutheran faith was a foundation for her daily life of prayer. All throughout the day you could hear her praying for each child, grandchild and great-grandchild by name. She knew each one was a special gift from God to her and Tom.She loved routines but would drop everything to be part of a water fight taking place in the kitchen. Her game playing was always a time of fun and conversation. She loved to be surrounded by her children. Her heart to play board games was bar-none.It has been said that she could recall the clothing each child wore on their first day of school and their teachers’ names. Many have tried to stump her and have failed. In the last months of her husband Tom’s life she was his caregiver. Phyllis always treated her “Tommy” with love and respect for the 69 years they were married.
Together they raised a family, accomplished a great vision and enjoyed the fruit of their hearts: their family.
When they were together it was most always hand in hand and heart to heart. Now together for eternity.
You both will be missed.
