Patricia McLaughlan

McLAUGHLAN – Patricia Ann, passed away July 20, 2024 in Lynchburg, VA at 91. Born January 23, 1933 to Anna and Otto Nachtigall, she was predeceased by her sister Rosalie (Robert) Ingram and is survived by her children: Thomas (Esther) McLaughlan, Carol (Frank) Macedo, Lori (Stephan) Schultze, Michelle McLaughlan, Kristine (Paul) Kiley, Kevin (Amanda) McLaughlan, 9 grandchildren (Sean, Nathan, Anna, Justin, Kaitlin, Christopher, Fiona, Jack, and Sadie) and nephews, William and James Dreitlein. 

Patricia was born in Newburgh, NY raised in Brooklyn, NY. An honor roll student at Bushwick High School she was a Gregg Shorthand Speed Certificate holder transcribing over 80 words per minute. Patricia applied her skills at the Reichhold Chemical and the U.S. Plywood Companies from 1952 to 1957. She was a member of The Martineers of St. Martin of Toures R.C. Church in Brooklyn where she met Robert J. McLaughlan and they married in 1956, eventually settling in Smithtown, NY in 1965. She worked as Recertification Manager, HUD at The Village of St John’s senior community (now Sienna Village) in Smithtown for many years until retiring. 

Patricia was a lover of life- enjoyed dancing, traveling, warm Florida beaches, attending seminars and workshops and was an avid water colorist- exhibiting her works in local libraries and galleries. Above all, Patricia’s greatest love and devotion was to her family.

Patricia’s wake will take place at Moloney’s Funeral Home, 840 Wheeler Road, Hauppauge, NY on Friday July 26th 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. A mass will be held at St. Thomas More, 115 Kings Hwy. Hauppauge, NY on Saturday July 27th at 10:30 am. Her burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Centra Hospice of Lynchburg, VA.
