On July 14, 1935 James and Frances Hadden welcomed Patricia at the midwife’s home on Parkway Gardens Blvd. in Hauppauge, where there is an “invisible plaque commemorating the event”. She grew up on a farm on Terry Road. There, she discovered her love of animals; whether riding her beloved horse, Thunder, or befriending all the animals. Beside her love of animals, Patricia was also an excellent student; becoming Smithtown Branch High School’s valedictorian of the Class of 1953. Upon graduation, she began working for Household Finance in Smithtown. During a California vacation, while attending a USO dance in Monterey, Patricia met Robert Algar, from Flatbush.
Patricia and Robert married in 1959. During the Cold War, she worked for the NSA. In 1961, Patricia and Robert brought their daughter, Joyce into their lives. And, in 1967, added another daughter, Carol, and their family was complete. While being a wife and mother, Patricia was also proudly the President of both the Hauppauge Republican Club and the Hauppauge Homemakers. In addition, Patricia was a member of the Honey Hollow Garden Club where she enjoyed making flower arrangements.
With her unending amounts of love, Patricia Algar was a loyal friend; always lending a strong shoulder to lean on, not only for her many friends, but her family. She was a proud mother and wife and it showed through the thoughtful ways she made every holiday and birthday special.
Then in 1987, she became a grandmother for the first time, adding more love to her heart with the addition of Kayla. Then, in 2008, she excitedly welcomed to her heart, her grandson, Daniel. Patricia proudly wore the title of grandmother; always making time for her grandchildren. In 2020, Patricia was honored with a new role as Great-Grandmother when her granddaughter, added Lilly to family.
Patricia and Bob were able to have 60 years of partnership and love. After Bob was called home by God, in 2020, Patricia continued to travel to East Branch to feed her many hummingbirds because there, she “felt Bob’s presence the strongest.” On June 27, 2024, God called Pat to come and join Bob. She leaves behind her daughters Joyce and Carol, son-in-law Rich, grandchildren Kayla and Daniel, and great granddaughter Lilly.
