Nirmalesh Lal

Dr. Nirmalesh Lal was a gentle, kind and loving mother, wife, mentor and dear friend to all those who knew her. She left a deep emptiness in our hearts when her light left this world on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the age of 77 after a tireless battle with terminal brain cancer.

Nirmalesh was born to Shri Meri Lal and Saraswati Goel in New Delhi, India on August 9th,1945. An ardent scholar, she studied hard and became a distinguished pediatrician working at the renowned AIIMS in Delhi for several years. In 1972, she married her husband Dr. Shobhan Lal, and boldly moved to the United States settling in Kings Park, New York. She is survived by her two children; Bhavna and Alok Lal.

True to her astrological sign, Leo, Nirmalesh exuded courage as a lioness and held deep convictions. A devout Hindu, she had a special love for the goddess Durga and lived her life closely to the precepts of her religion. Contrastingly, she had a soft spot for those closest to her. She was the type of friend that kept your confidences safe while always lending a sympathetic and helpful ear.

A uniquely talented cook, she was often asked to make food for dinner parties, especially dessert. No one could resist her Baklava. She excelled at knitting and sewing and was an expert organizer, often receiving compliments on how immaculately she kept her house. Her sense of style and beauty was exquisite, particularly in jewelry and traditional Indian attire. It was not uncommon for her to hold the room as the best dressed person in attendance. She cared deeply for others, often donating her belongings to those in need and she protected and looked after her family and friends fiercely.

Her sweet smile and laugh will be painfully missed.
