George Joseph Vilim, Jr., age 79, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, September 26, 2021, in Palm Coast, Florida. A man of immense strength, George was the quintessential New Yorker. A third-generation ironworker and lifetime member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, and Ornamental Iron Workers Local 580, George worked on many of New York’s most iconic buildings, including the Empire State Building, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, Trump Tower, and the TWA Terminal at JFK. Born and raised in Queens, New York, he married Rosemarie DiNardo on October 12, 1963. George and Rosemarie lived in Farmingdale, New York, before moving to Holbrook, where they lived for 44 years before she passed in June 2020. Their son, George Joseph Vilim, III, predeceased them in 1972 at the age of three. He was a member of the RC Church of the Good Shepherd and was an active member of the parishes’ senior citizens group for many years. George is survived by his daughter DonnaMarie (Jeffrey) and his grandchildren, Jordan and Jillian.
