Michelle Mallon Gennarelli 1958-2023
We lost our dear Michelle far too early on November 9, 2023.
Michelle was born in Yonkers, New York on April 12, 1958 to Thomas F. & Eileen T. Mallon. She attended St. Hugh Elementary School and Walt Whitman High School, graduating in 1976. She continued on to CW Post, earning a Bachelors & Master’s degree in Political Science.
Growing up in Huntington Station in a household of 7 children was a crazy, but loving experience. Michelle was the 5th oldest. Although not wealthy, her parents worked hard to do what they could for their children (in the old Irish Catholic way). Whatever the dynamics, they were successful in raising the uniquely beautiful, one-of-a-kind Michelle that we all have come to love.
Michelle married Michael on June 5th 1982 on one of the rainiest days in recorded history. On the way to the church, the photographer’s car bumped into the back of the bridal car (which had the wedding cake in the trunk). Despite the rocky start, the rest of the wedding, as well as their marriage was nothing but a blessing from God. Michelle and Michael were truly best friends.
Michelle started her career in the Health Administration field, at times overseeing hundreds of home health care aids. Once the kids came along, she gave up that career to be an incredible mother. As the kids got older, she resumed a new career; teaching. She taught & tutored at numerous schools throughout Long Island. From the affluent students of Manhasset to the convicts at Yaphank & Riverhead prisons, she had a positive impact on the lives of numerous young adults.
The most important and rewarding aspect of Michelle’s life were her children. Daniel (1989), Lauren (1992), Brandon (1996), and Evan (1997) were the light of her life. They brought so much joy to her, and she to them. She seamlessly navigated diaper changes, strollers, hockey & soccer games, concerts, etc. while managing not to go insane. There were always friends coming and going throughout the years, and Michelle made sure everyone was welcome (and well fed). There was never any doubt that she was always there for her children (and husband) whenever needed.
Michelle was proceeded in death by parents Tom & Eileen, brother Robert and sister Dorothy. She is survived by husband Michael, children Daniel, Lauren, Brandon & Evan, siblings Rosemary, Karen, Tommy & Eileen, countless relatives on both the Mallon and Gennarelli sides, and numerous friends, all of whose hearts are broken today as we say goodbye.
