Michael J. Flaherty

Michael James Flaherty, 73, left us, surrounded by loved ones on November 12, 2023. Mickey grew up in Commack, New York where he attended high school. He went on to serve at the United States Military Academy at West Point, received his bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and his master’s degree from Stony Brook University. Mickey was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. Above all, Mickey’s favorite titles were son, brother and uncle. His family was extremely important to him.

Mickey lived life to the fullest and no matter the circumstance, could bring a room to laughter. He was quick-thinking, witty and quite the storyteller. In fact, his nieces and nephews can recite many of his favorite stories and jokes. He was an entertainer in its purest form and the life of the party. To know Mickey, was to love him.

Mickey is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Regina Flaherty. He is survived by his siblings, Thomas Flaherty, Kathleen Flaherty, Pat and Katherine Flaherty, Mary Lou Sharkey, Gina and Michael Iadanza, and Fran and Gerry Schenk. Mickey was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind Patrick Sharkey, Dan and Lisa Anne Flaherty, Jackie and Ryan Rao, Tom Iadanza and Jona Riso, Annie Flaherty and Corey Kane, Kaylee Schenk and Konnor Schenk. He was a grand uncle to PJ and Nathan Flaherty, and JT Rao.
