MaryAnn Schaudel
August 13, 1937 – June 8, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of MaryAnn Schaudel beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend. MaryAnn passed away peacefully at the age of eighty-five.
MaryAnn was born on August 13, 1937, to Albert and Julia DiGennaro and raised in Elmont, New York. She was one of four siblings, sister to Joseph, Guy, and Roberta. She was a graduate of Sewanhaka High School – class of 1955. She played basketball, softball, and volleyball; was a member of the Newspaper club as a mimeograph operator/typist. Her friends could usually find “Didge” at the Movie Theater or enjoying ice cream and candy at the Westgate Luncheonette. She was voted for having the best personality with her memorable trait described as “famous for talking”!
While working at the Wal-Cliffe Roller Skating Rink, as a coat check clerk, she met the love of her life, a roller-skating rink floor guard William (Bill) Schaudel. They married in September of 1957 and moved to Queens, NY, where MaryAnn began her career as a clerk typist for the R.T. Vanderbilt Company on Park Avenue.
Several years later, MaryAnn and Bill moved to Lake Ronkonkoma and started their family with two beautiful children Theresa and Linda. Later, they would add a much-loved family dog, Ginger. MaryAnn was a people person and she loved the friendships made with the Lynda and Duane Drive families for the past 60 years. Her coffee pot was always on and ready to serve her family and friends. She welcomed everyone with her enormous smile, cheerful laugh, and great sense of humor while serving crumb cake or Entenmann’s bakery treats. Her love for animals would later turn her into a devoted doggie daycare Mom to “Minnie”, whom she adored. She cherished the neighborhood block parties and was known for her amazing macaroni salad. Every holiday season she was the happiest when baking cookies and fruit tarts. While in New York, she was lovingly cared for by the aides from Comfort Keepers. In 2022, she moved to Parker, Colorado to be compassionately cared for by her daughter, Linda, son-in-law, Dan, the wonderful staff at the Life Care Center of Stonegate and in 2023, Colorado Palliative and Hospice Care.
MaryAnn was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose and assisted Bill in performing his secretary and administrator duties with the Ronkonkoma Moose Lodge 2109 for 28 years. She volunteered at St. Joseph’s Church for their mailing projects and was a member of the Lake Ronkonkoma Homemakers Club. She loved solving Jumble word puzzles, playing cards, attending musical concerts, watching the Game Show Network, enjoying arts and crafts, and playing Bingo! Her favorite activities were playing scratch-off lottery tickets and eating Pizzelles homemade by her son-in-law Dan.
MaryAnn is survived by her daughter Linda Ganz (Dan), brother Guy DiGennaro (Marie), sister Roberta Ullrich, brother-in-law, Frederick Schaudel (Elizabeth), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved cat Willow. She is predeceased by her husband, William Schaudel, her daughter Theresa Schaudel, her parents, Albert and Julie DiGennaro, her brother Joseph DiGennaro (Florence), and her brother-in-law William Ullrich.
To honor Maryann’s memories, we are celebrating her life at the Mother Teresa Tribute Center – Moloney Funeral Home, Ronkonkoma, on Thursday, August 17th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. We look forward to sharing stories of MaryAnn with the same joy and laughter she brought to our lives. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Ronkonkoma on August 18th at 10 a.m. followed by a committal service at Calverton National Cemetery. In place of flowers, please consider donating to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Loyal Order of Moose – Mooseheart or Moosehaven programs, or the Last Hope Animal Rescue.
