Mary Ann H. Welch

Mary Ann H. Welch, 93, of Wantagh, passed away peacefully in hospice care at Sunrise of Smithtown on November 14, 2024. Mary Ann was born in Astoria, NY, the daughter of the late Herman and Marie. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Charles J. Welch. She lived on Long Island all her life, growing up in the town of Hempstead and graduated from Hempstead H.S. Her first job was a typist and secretary for an office located inside an airport hanger at Mitchell field airport. She met her husband when he joined the young adult group at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Hempstead. They were married, had 3 children, and settled into a beautiful home in Wantagh. She enjoyed working as a waitress at the Milleridge Inn, later she worked as a Ward Clerk at the Nassau Community Medical Center. She enjoyed going to square dances with her husband and friends dressed in full square dancing attire! She loved gardening and was always buying new flowers to beautify her home. She enjoyed bowling in a league at the Wantagh Bowling Alley, making many good friends over the years. In retirement, she and her husband traveled in a camper with their dog and visited many beautiful places. She also did some traveling in Europe with her family, and loved to visit her grandchildren in Vermont and on Long Island. She was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor and her son-in-law Kenneth. She is survived by her daughter, LauraJean, Charles Jr. (Laurie), and Peter (Anne). She is also survived by her 6 grand children; Steven (Molly), Jeanine (Jacob), Evan (Andreana), Scott (Stefanie), Ashley, and Ryan. She is also survived by 2 great grandchildren, Poetry, and Charlie Rose. Relatives and friends are invited for visiting hours from 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm on November 21st, with a funeral service at 3:30pm at Moloney's Hauppauge Funeral Home, 840 Wheeler Road (Route 111), Hauppauge, NY 11788 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary Ann's name to a charity of the donor's choice. A private burial will be held the next day at Calverton National Cemetery.
