Maria (Maruja) Albertina Riascos Hoyos, 86, of College Point, left this earth to reunite with her grandson, Justin, her parents, Pedro and Tomasa Riascos, her brothers Julio and Guillarmo, and sisters, Lola, Alecia and Carmen on Sunday, December 18, 2016.
Maria was born in Cali, Colombia on October 24, 1930. She worked at IBM as a manager. Her 60 year marriage to Victor Alfonso began in Cali Colombia. A few years later, they moved to New York, settling in College Point, Queens, to later raise their seven children. Maria, not only managed her home as a fulltime homemaker, but she also managed a 2 store commercial building. She was strongly involved with Saint Fidelis Catholic Church as a founding member of the Latin community as well as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a philanthropist by donating to several organizations involving children, human rights, U.S. Veterans, and to end world hunger, just to name a few. She was proud of her Colombian heritage and proud of her established roots in the United States where she became a proud American Citizen in 1993.
She leaves to mourn her seven children: Maria Cristina McCauley (Michael), Luz, Carlos (Sabeita) , Constanza Pandolfo (Jimmy), Beatriz (Philip Ash III), Victor (Jody) and Patricia Fraser (Rob), thirteen grand children: Rhiannon Angeles (Franklin), Gabriella Lesley (Rob), Reuben, Matthew, Alyssa, Victor A, Victor J. , Anthony, Nicole, Sophia, Miles and Arianna; three great grandchildren: Frankie, Max and Robbie, nephews Enrique and Efrien (Estella), great nephew, David, family in Colombia and closest friends that are surrogate family members to the Hoyos family: Anna and , Andrea, Nina and family, Beatriz T. and family, Maria Elena and family.
In addition to her parents, siblings, grandson, Maria was preceding in death by her closest friends of 40 year plus: Elisa, Maria, Zonia.
Maria’s sense of humor, sincere compassion and love for her family and closest friends will be missed along with the Love she poured in her creative and wonderful cooking during the Holidays and Birthdays.
