Margaret Elizabeth Garrett Onakpoma was born on May 18th, 1937 in Memphis Tennessee from the loving union of Ferrell and Ethel Garrett who are both deceased. She was the first child of 12 children. She attended Hyde Park Elementary and Douglas High School. Her mother Ethel Garrett 1975, Father Ferrell Garrett 2001, four brothers and one sister preceded her death.
She was married to James Rhinehart Jr. while still in Memphis Tennessee. He proceeded her in death on August 26, 2005. Margaret and James migrated to Detroit, Michigan and started their life together. Soon after to the union was born Deborah, Vivian, Darlene, Anthony (Tony) and Anita. However, the Lord wasn’t finished blessing Margaret over the next 12 years, two more children were born, Linda and Edris.
Margaret then went on to marry two more times to Earl Rucker whom she had no children in this union, who also preceded her death. Years after, she remarried to Judd Onakpoma and there were no children in their union.
Margaret went on to further her education herself hosting multiple of Bachelor’s and other degrees. But her favorite love of all was when she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology, better known as FIT where she went on to become a fashion designer and pattern maker. That was her love in passion. She also holds a cosmetologist license and a cosmetology instructor license. That was her second passion, and third passion she loved to teach and tutor helping multiple children getting their Masters, Bachelor degrees. She loved to read, she loved to sing opera and she even sang at her own children’s graduation while they were getting their Bachelors. Our mom was what life looks like in real life time. Whatever she laid her hands on she did well, very well. She was a jack of all stone and will be greatly missed by her children, her siblings and friends, and more so she also made as well as a Master Designer. She made hats and shoes, wow! We’re truly going to miss you and all of your wisdom.
